Charles Lowery, Sr.

Charles Wells Lowery, Sr. 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Born August 11, 1925, in Pacolet Mills, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Franklin Lowery and Grace Wells Lowery Cook. He was a loving father and grandfather who instilled a strong faith in God to his family. He loved to work and be in his yard. Mr. Lowery was a retired veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard after 22 years of service and the Veterans Administration after 14 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, Trough Shoals Masonic Lodge #228 for 64 years, and Woodmen of the World. He attended Limestone College and John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science. Surviving are his children, Claire Franklynn Lowery of Spartanburg, SC, Charles Wells Lowery, Jr. and wife Clare of Nipomo, CA, and Mary Elizabeth Lowery Burrell and husband Gary of Hendersonville, NC; granddaughters, Ashley Burrell Harper and husband Tommy, Heidi Burrell Isaacs and husband Lee, Charlotte Wells Burrell, Bonnie Kara Lowery and Jennifer Shaye Lowery, and Bonnie Lowery, mother of Bonnie Kara and Jennifer Shaye; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Zeb Ashley Lowery. Private graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone.
