Charles Kelly

Charles Edward Kelly, 74, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, November 6, 2022 at SMC-Mary Black Campus. Born November 6, 1948 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Edward Blackburn, Margaret Hazel Simmons Wood, and adoptive father Cecil R. Kelly.

A US Navy veteran, Mr. Kelly was stationed in Hawaii and Japan. He was retired from Phillips Fibers (Amoco) after 30 years of service. A NASCAR fan, he loved all animals, especially his cats Garfield, Kelly, and Buddy, playing golf, shooting pool, yard work, being outdoors, and tending to his garden.

Survivors include his siblings, Robert C. Kelly of Blacksburg, SC, Sam Kelly of Hobe Sound, FL, Kenneth Sanders, Diane Hawkins of Chester, SC, Sue Blackburn Trent of Gaffney, SC, and Mary Jo Rhodes of Woodruff, SC; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and former wife, Dale Laflin Kelly of Spartanburg, SC. He was predeceased by siblings, Ronald Blackburn, Charles J. “Chuck” Blackburn, Raymond W. Kelly, Betty Stapleton, and Cathy Blackwell.
