Charles Thornton Gaines, Sr.

Charles Thornton Gaines, Sr., age 82, of Inman, SC, passed away on July 20th, 2023. He was born on October 16th, 1940 in Greenville, SC to the late Olive Elliott and Lillie Viola Bayne Gaines. Charles was devoted husband to Lillian Ruth Wofford Gaines. 

Through his love for animals, flowers, and vegetables, he made a beautiful home for his family and others to enjoy. He loved simple pleasures: grilling, creating original recipes, fishing, traveling, and telling stories. He demonstrated tremendous perseverance to honor the Lord despite his sufferings. He is greatly missed, but he leaves us with many cherished memories. 

Charles was the proud father of three children and one son-in-law, Melody Anne (predeceased), Chuck Gaines, Anne Strange, and Steve Strange. Charles adored his grandchildren: Steven, Lillian Rose, and Charlton. He is reunited in heaven with his parents, infant daughter, and three siblings: Geraldine, Sheraldine, and Leon. 

A visitation in remembrance of Charles Thornton Gaines, Sr. will be held on July 23rd, 2023 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The funeral service will follow at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel at 4:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Gene Pace. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
