Charles Cagle, Sr.

Charles "Chuck" Edward Cagle Sr., 79, of Moore, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013, surrounded by his family. Born August 19, 1933, in Bristol, TN, the eldest of nine children, he was the son of the late Franklin J. and Gladys Kistner Cagle and husband of the late Jeanette Savoy Cagle. A veteran of the U. S. Army, Mr. Cagle served three years which included war service in Korea. He was honorably discharged and awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He graduated from Madison High School in Madison Heights, MI, was an avid golfer and outdoorsmen who enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a long-time standing member of the local Three Pines Country Club. His many accomplishments included being supervisor for Carmet Company in Madison Heights, MI and playing an instrumental role in the company's relocation to South Carolina. Chuck was also a parishioner and member of the Ushers Club at St. Vincent Ferrer, a member of the Board of Directors of the Madison Heights Police Reserves, was a two term elected councilman on the Madison Heights City Council and also served a term as Mayor Pro Tem, honorary member of the United Steel Workers Local 7331, and member of the American Legion Post #254. He is survived by seven children, Charles Cagle Jr. of California, Deborah Hillman (Richard) of Madison Heights, MI, Kevin Cagle of Newport News, VA, Catherine Cagle (Nina) of Warren, MI, Patricia Wright (Paul) of Cornelius, NC, Denise Brown of Boone, NC, and Maureen Loehr (Mark) of Inman, SC; "adopted" son, Rick Moore "Big Dog" (Ann) of Moore, SC; 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Cagle Schomer and DiAnne Cagle Leitermann of Madison Heights, MI, and Linda Cagle Bryant of Clinton Twp, MI; brothers, Howard Cagle (Patricia) of Warren, MI, and Joseph Cagle (Michelle) of Southfield, MI; and several nieces and nephews. In additional to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by grandson, Shawn Cagle; and brothers, Frank Cagle, Richard Cagle, Donald Cagle, and Harold Cagle. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 PM Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Catholic Church of Jesus Our Risen Savior. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Ted Kalaw. Burial with military honors will be celebrated in Michigan at a later date. Following the services, the family invites friends to a Celebration of Life at Three Pines Country Club, 255 Plantation Drive, Woodruff, SC 29388.
