Charles Allen, Sr.

Charles "Charlie" Raymond Allen, Sr., 64, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, June 20, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born September 22, 1951, in Gainesville, GA, he was the son of the late J. D. Allen and Jeanette Gittens Allen. A graduate of Spartanburg Day School, Mr. Allen received his BS and MS Degrees in Textiles from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He retired from Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor and was a franchisee of Reliance Foods (Little Ceasars). A selfless individual who lived to help others, he was a man of many words. He served as former president of the Spartanburg Touchdown Club and was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Kathy Johnson Allen; sons, Charles Allen, Jr. "Chuck" and Matthew Allen "Matt", both of Spartanburg, SC; brother, Kenneth Allen of Norcross, GA; stepsisters, Cathy Crowley (Pat) and Lydia Johnston (Kirk), all of Spartanburg, SC; and second-mother, Irene Cook of Pacolet, SC. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a stepsister, Sandy Warlick, who is survived by her husband Gaines Warlick; and is also predeceased by his stepmother, Mildred Brown Allen. A memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 25, 2016, at The Episcopal Church of the Advent by the Rev. J. Edward Morris. A reception will follow the services in the church Parish and Community Life Center.
