Charlene Reese, 73, of Gaffney, SC died Friday, January 15, 2021 at Cherokee Medical Center. Born January 29, 1947 in Athens, OH, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Maurice and Rhoada Elizabeth Hammill Bingman. Charlene received her BA in Education from Appalachian State in Home Economics and Science and her Master's degree from Converse College. She was retired from Spartanburg County School District Six, after 30 years of service. A member of First Baptist Church Cowpens, she was also a member with WMU (Woman's Missionary Union), Young at Heart, and the Choir. She loved to sew, cross-stitch, quilting, and making wreaths. Survivors include her husband, Horace Lee Reese, Jr., sons, Horace Lee Reese III, and his wife, Honor Taylor Reese of Woodruff, SC and John Freeman Reese of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Iva Elizabeth Reese Jenkins, and her husband, Gordon of Johns Island, SC; grandchildren, Daniel LaRoche Jenkins and Charlene Reese Jenkins; brother, Steve M. Bingman of Spartanburg, SC; and her sister, Martha Bingman Harris of Johns Island, SC. A graveside service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Bill Westafer and The Rev. Kermit Morris. Visitation will be at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Cowpens Disaster Fund, P.O. Box 1818, Cowpens, SC 29330.
