Cecilia Barriault Cote' grew up in the northeast, but by the grace of God moved South early in her happy marriage of 54 years. She was born on October 4, 1931 on Martha's Vineyard, the second daughter of Roger and Anna Barriault. She graduated from Holy Family High School and earned her RN from Boston College's Carnegie School of Nursing with valedictory honors. In 1954 she married Eugene Joseph Wilfred Cote´ (Gene). They first lived in Ridgewood, NJ, then made their way to Spartanburg following brief residencies in Chattanooga, TN and Rock Hill, SC. She enjoyed pursuing her nursing career until the arrival of her children, Bernadette, Paul, and Anne. When the children were in high school, Cecilia returned to school to earn the distinction of becoming one of the first two Nurse Practitioners in Spartanburg County. Cecilia's top priorities in life were her faith and family. She was a longtime member of Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and was the proud mother/mother-in-law of Bernadette and Laurence LaBruce of Myrtle Beach, SC, Nancy and Paul Cote´of Spartanburg, and Anne and Rick Marscher of Hilton Head Island, SC. What brought her the most joy in life was watching her grandchildren as they all grew into delightful, successful young adults. They are Laurence LaBruce, IV of Hilton Head Island, SC; Richardson LaBruce and his wife Jean of Beaufort, SC; Allston LaBruce of Myrtle Beach, SC; Anna Cote´Hall and her husband Aaron of Murfreesboro, TN; Abby Cote´of Spartanburg, SC; William Marscher and John Marscher of Hilton Head Island, SC. Cecilia passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, December 13 surrounded by her loved ones. The family extends its profound thanks to the compassionate and attentive staff at Summit Hills and to her personal assistant, Dale Simpson-all angels of mercy. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5-7 at the home of her son (1016 Arden Way). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at 11 a.m. at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (the old main sanctuary), conducted by the Rev. Timothy M. Gahan.
