Cecil E. Trainer, of Spartanburg, SC, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at his home. Born July 21, 1931 in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Cecil E. Trainer Sr. and Mildred Lewis Trainer. He was an All-State athlete at Brown High School in Atlanta, then attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship, where he was an Academic All-American and starting defensive end for the 1952 National Championship Team. After serving in the U. S. Army, he went on to a career with Southern Wood Piedmont Company and United Wood Treating Products. Cecil leaves his wife of 59 years, Betty Trainer; his son, Bill (Hsiang-Mei), daughter, Laura Price (Henry), son, Sam (Heather); grandchildren, Max Price, Christie Trainer, Sam Trainer Jr.; brother, Fred Trainer (Margaret); sister, Sylvia Mazeau (Ron); brother-in-law, Michael Backus (Donna); and many nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel-Hillcrest, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Jennings.
