Cathryn Pettit

Cathryn Cooley Pettit, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Eden Terrace-Spartanburg. Born June 25, 1926, in Cooley Springs, SC, she was the daughter of the late Perry Edmond and Ruby Lillian Nantz Cooley and widow of Raymond Herbert Pettit, Sr. Mrs. Pettit was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. She loved to crochet little caps for premature babies at the hospital, going home to her roots in Cooley Springs to visit Strawberry Hill, and loved traveling with her husband. She sang alto for many years in the choir at Morningside and later with the "Golden Tones". She received her Bachelor's Degree from Limestone College and retired from Duke Power. Survivors include her children, Ray Pettit (Brenda) of Greenwood, SC, Donald Pettit (Karen) of Springfield, VA, and Laura Hunter (Howell) of Fort Mill, SC; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Cooley of Spartanburg, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by grandsons, Jonathan Hunter and Matthew Hunter; sister, Lois Humphries; and brothers, Dupre Cooley, Jessie Cooley, Raymond Cooley, Gene Cooley, and Ansel Cooley. Visitation will be 1:30 - 2:30 PM Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Morningside Baptist Church, 897 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29302. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
