Cathleen Gilbert

Betty Cathleen (Cat) Gilbert, 91, of Spartanburg and recently of Simpsonville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Born February 4, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John Taylor and Strocy Jones Parham and the widow of Charles Manning Gilbert. Of the Baptist faith, she attended Saxon Church of God as a child and for the last three years, attended Simpsonville First Baptist Church with her daughter, Brenda Dalton and son-in-law, Frank Dalton, where she was a member of the Hal Lowder Sunday School Class. She worked in textiles before partnering with her husband in their contracting business and was also a dedicated homemaker, completely devoted to her husband and daughters. She and her husband were very active with the Spartanburg Hejaz Shriners. She doted on her entire family, was fiercely loyal, enjoyed raising poodles and Pekingese dogs, was a gracious hostess famous for her potato salad, and truly enjoyed photographing her large family and many friends on any occasion. She greeted each day and each person with a smile and was always up for good fun. She had an unforgettable laugh, enjoyed traveling, the beach, the lake, and especially loved fishing. She represents 91 years of unconditional love to her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Dalton (Frank), and Barbara Gilbert-Stefanescu (Alex); four grandchildren, Angela Comer Cannon (Danny), Ava Comer, Brett Comer (Darby), and Brian Comer (Sherri);14 great-grandchildren, Ashley Comer Freeman (Wes), Amy Mallette, Amber Reece, Brandon and Allie Comer, Erica and Kristin Comer, Charlie Comer, Grayson Justice, Taylor Brown, and Katie, Cody, Casey, and Carter Comer; nine great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law; brothers-in-law; and several beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Friday, February 23, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307 with services following at 2:00 PM, conducted by The Reverend Dan Taylor. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
