Catherine Grogan Higgins, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, April 15, 2018, at her home. Born August 13, 1929, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Erby Franklin Grogan (stepmother, Valerie) and Leila Grant Grogan and widow of Fred B. Higgins. A member of Calvary Baptist Church then Morningside Baptist Church, Mrs. Higgins loved her family and enjoyed shopping and watching western movies. She was a Red Cross volunteer and YWA Leader at Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing. She was also an avid Gamecock fan. Survivors include her son, Joe Higgins (Neeley) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Kimberly Henderson (Bill) of Woodruff, SC, Beth Higgins Walker (Scott) of Inman, SC, Teresa Higgins of Spartanburg, SC, Dougie Higgins (Michelle) of Inman, SC; great-grandchildren, Paul McGaha, Samantha McGaha, Brittany Walker, Josey Smith, Kristi Fortenberry, Jamie Henderson, and Kevin Henderson; Andy McGaha, father of Paul and Samantha; and daughter-in-law, Diann Higgins Easler of Boiling Springs, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Douglas Higgins. The family extends special thanks to Tina Atwood for all her help and also to the staff of Southern Care Hospice. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 18, 2018, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by The Rev. Stephen Owensby and Mr. Bill Henderson. Visitation will follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
