Catherine Edwards

Catherine Ramsey Couch Edwards, 93, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, SC. A native of Inman, SC, she was born October 12, 1923, the daughter of the late B. Claude and Martha E. Anderson Ramsey. She was first married to the late Kenneth O. Couch, and then to the late John D. Edwards, Sr. Catherine graduated from Baker High School in Baker, Oregon, Asheville and Anderson Colleges, and completed graduate studies at Furman and Clemson Universities. She was a teacher in School Districts One and Six for 30 years. She was a charter member of the Fairforest Garden Club and was the Woman of the Year in the Spartanburg Garden Club Council in 1992, serving in many capacities in the Council. She was a lifetime member of the Garden Club of South Carolina, the Retired Teachers Association of Spartanburg, and a lifetime member of both the State and National Teachers Associations. Catherine was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church, and attended Covenant Presbyterian Church, serving her Lord in various ways to further His Kingdom. Catherine is survived by sons, Kenneth R. Couch and his wife, Susan Foster Couch; Roger L. Couch and his wife, Joy Ayers Couch; Michael C. Couch and his wife, Sarah Simons Couch, all of Spartanburg; stepchildren, John Edwards and his wife, Nancy Skinner Edwards of Inman, SC; Mary Edwards Hendrick, and her husband, Steven Hendrick of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Melissa Catherine Miller and her husband, Nicholas Miller of Duncan, SC; Elizabeth Couch Egan and her husband, Andy Egan of Charleston, SC; Kelly Couch Woodward and her husband, Bradley Woodward of Spartanburg, SC; K. C. Couch and his wife, Mandy Couch of Charlotte, NC; Dyar Jennings and his wife, Amanda Jennings of Spartanburg; Will Couch and his wife, Christaine Couch of Murrells Inlet, SC; Robert Couch and his wife, Leah Couch of Greenville, SC; Suzanne Hendrick, Shannon Hendrick and his wife, Dandy Hendrick, Beth Wilson and her husband, Jay Wilson, all of Charlotte, NC; Ben Edwards and his wife, Anna Edwards of Inman, SC; and Polly Padgett and her husband, Josh Padgett of Spartanburg; and 16 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday, May 1, 2017 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Fairforest Baptist Church, 115 Church Street, Fairforest, SC 29336, conducted by the Rev. Robert Brozina, the Rev. Monty King, and eulogy by Peggy Taylor Thigpen . Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Brent Dowis and the Rev. Joe Dempsey. Honorary escort will be the Fairforest Garden Club and Spartanburg Garden Club Council.
