Catherine Glenn Dedmon, 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Upstate Community Hospice House. Born December 27, 1930 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of Oscott Bryon and Pauline Barnado Glenn.
Mrs. Dedmon graduated from Presbyterian College and did graduate work at Converse College, Wofford College, Clemson University, and the University of South Carolina-Columbia. Mrs. Dedmon taught 33 years in the Spartanburg County Public Schools. She retired from School District Two in 1992.
Catherine enjoyed traveling and after her retirement, she traveled all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, England, Scotland, Ireland, Austria, The Netherlands, Italy and France. She enjoyed her numerous visits to Hawaii where she and her son had a timeshare.
She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and The Spartanburg Woman’s Club, The South Carolina Coalition of Public Employees; The South Carolina State Employees Association, The South Carolina Retired Employees Association, The South Carolina Public Health Association, The South Carolina Education Association, the National Education Association, The South Carolina Association-Retired, The National Education Association-Retired, The Spartanburg County Education Association, The Spartanburg County Education-Retired, Pinkney District Genealogical Society, The Silver Haired Legislators and The Forrester Foundation Board of Commissioners.
She was a Life Member of The South Carolina Education Association-Retired; The National Education-Retired; and The Parent Teacher Association.
Mrs. Dedmon served on The South Carolina Education Association Board of Directors as a Director and The South Carolina Education Association-Retired of Directors as Vice-President, Secretary and District Three Director.
Survivors include her son, Dr. David Bryon Dedmon of Spartanburg, SC; her sister, Virginia Glenn Crane of Oshkosh, WI; a niece, Amelia Winslow Crane of Oshkosh, WI; along with several cousins, and her very dear friends, Kathey Pittman and Patricia Lacey.
Visitation will be 1:00 – 1:45 pm Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Robert Brozina. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 880 W.O. Ezell Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29301 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
