Carrie West

Mrs. Carrie Byrd West, 89, of Glenn Springs, SC, passed to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. She was born in Spartanburg on September 17, 1928, to the late Delbert Erastus Byrd and Mary Elmina King Byrd. She was the loving wife of the late Lester O. West for 57 wonderful years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Edna Byrd Riddle and Betty Byrd Lundquist; one brother, Carroll Byrd; a niece, Diana Quinn; and a nephew, Jerry Morgan. Surviving are her sons of the heart, Tim West, Dean Pruitt, and Chuck Quinn; daughters of the heart, Donna Cook, Carolyn West, Cathy Byars, and Dot Lee; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Carrie lived life to the fullest. She never met a stranger and was loved dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She loved her friends and neighbors who meant the world to her. She loved traveling by tour bus, motor home, or car. She loved playing cards each Thursday night and going out to eat at Wade's each Saturday with her special friends, Ruth Ramsey, Mary Woods, and Dot Lee. Carrie was a member of West Springs Baptist Church and the Union County Senior Citizens Club. She worked for Nancy Fashions, a division of Butte Knit, for many years as office manager and retired after 10 years from the Spartanburg County Health Department in 1991. The family will receive friends 2:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with a Celebration of Life service following at 3:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Ford and the Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
