Carrie McAbee McKee, 93, of the Northbrook Community, Boiling Springs, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, at her home. Born May 23, 1918, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Fred McAbee Sr. and Montie Loftis McAbee, and wife of the late James L. McKee. Mrs. McKee was a very active member of First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg, the Circle of Friends Sunday School Class, loved traveling with the senior citizens at First North, and retired from Butte Knit Company. She loved reading, sewing, making quilts, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, word search and jigsaw puzzles, Bible trivia, and sharing her activities with all her family and friends. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Gilbert Gowan and husband Charles, Carol Gilbert Moore and husband James C., all of Spartanburg, and Bett Gilbert Lancaster and husband Perry of Inman; a step-daughter, Katherine Johnson of Spartanburg; a son-in-law, Gerald Malone of Kernersville, NC; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanette McAbee Roddy of Boiling Springs. She was predeceased by a daughter, Helen Gilbert Malone of Kernesville, NC; two sons, Bill Gilbert, Jr. and Lewis Lee Gilbert, both of Boiling Springs; three sisters, Virginia Cannon, Evelyn Burnett, and Clara Parham; and a brother, Fred McAbee, Jr. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 PM Sunday, December 18, 2011, at First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, in the church, conducted by the Rev. Al Phillips. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, Boiling Springs.
