Carolyn Valentine

Carolyn Wilkins Valentine, 88, of Pacolet, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born July 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John Russell and Nancy Matthews Wilkins and wife, for sixty-six years, of the late Lewis "Jiggs" Valentine who preceded her in death by one month. At birth, Carolyn was so small a dresser drawer was her crib. She was a graduate of Pacolet High School and retired from Beaumont Mills as a cloth inspector after 25 years of service. A life-long member of Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Annette Greene Sunday School Class and was faithful in her Bible study. She enjoyed shopping with friends, cooking, sewing, and traveling. She married her high school sweetheart, Lewis, after corresponding with him during his four years of military duty in the Pacific in World War II. They had not been apart for more than a week since that time. Family was very important to Carolyn. She was the youngest of nine siblings and will be remembered as an outstanding homemaker who maintained contact with her family, extended family, and friends throughout her life. She loved hearing about all their adventures and accomplishments, as well as, helping them through the rough times. Survivors include a son, L. Scott Valentine, II (Theresa) of Corvallis, OR; a daughter, Candace Valentine Brown of Spartanburg; grandchildren and great-grandchildren she adored; four grandsons, Dylan Brown (Sharon) of Stafford, VA, Chan Valentine of Juneau, AK, Lewis Valentine of Corvallis, OR, Toby Brown and great-grandchildren Aidan and Anna Brown of Pacolet; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by eight siblings and a son-in-law, David Brown. Visitation will be 5:30-8:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2011 at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Norman L. Band. Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, PO Box 660, Pacolet Mills, SC 29373; or Connie Maxwell Children's Home, PO Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648.
