Carolyn Grace (Seay) O'Dell

Carolyn Grace (Seay) O'Dell, age 91, of Spartanburg, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at home. Born in Pacolet Mills on May 22, 1932, Carolyn was a daughter of DeWitt Talmadge and Mary Hodge Seay and wife of the late Rev. Donald R. O'Dell for 67 years.

A graduate of Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing, Carolyn served her community as a Registered Nurse for several years. She also worked with the Crippled Children's Clinic in Spartanburg.

Carolyn had an everlasting, strong faith and was strong willed to the end. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and loved to spread The Word. She was a talented singer and member of the Converse Symphony Chorus. Carolyn loved her family and took great care to hand sew many items of clothing.

Survivors include her sons, Christopher DeWitt O'Dell (Kathy) of Central, SC, James Russell O'Dell of Spartanburg, and Charles Wesley O'Dell (Rudi Rudisill) of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Maurice O'Dell of Raleigh, NC. Along with her parents and husband, Carolyn was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
