Carolyn Kreuzer

May 31, 1925 — August 12, 2016

Carolyn Wallace Kreuzer, 91, of Spartanburg passed away at Mary Black Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 12, 2016 from a cerebral hemorrhage after sustaining a fall. She was born in Spartanburg on May 31, 1925 the daughter of James Young Wallace and Mary Alma Crews Wallace and grew up in Converse Heights with her nine sisters and her brother. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Carolyn met her husband, William J. Kreuzer, a soldier, at a Camp Croft dance during WWII. They married and moved to New York City, William's home. There they had two children, Donald William and Claire Joanne. They eventually moved from NYC to the suburbs of Northern New Jersey where they had two more children, Thomas Anthony and Jeanne Marie. After their children grew up and moved out of the nest, Carolyn and William separated. At that point, Carolyn moved back to Spartanburg and purchased the Wallace family house where she and her siblings grew up in Converse Heights. She lived in the Wallace family home until her passing. Her husband and her four children survive Carolyn as does her sister, Martha Wallace Nelson of Clinton, SC. Carolyn graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1942 and was voted "Best School Citizen". She grew up as a Methodist and was a convert and very active member of the Catholic Church. Carolyn was a very giving person, always giving of her time to other members of the community. She taught Sunday School and was active in fund raising for the Parishes where she lived. She also worked as a volunteer at several hospitals including Mary Black Memorial where she was awarded the Shirley S. Golightly Award for volunteer services 1990-1991.
