Carolyn McClure Gillespie, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital-Spartanburg. Born September 7, 1927, in Clifton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Brown McClure and Minnie Geneva George McClure and widow of Harold Floyd "Abie" Gillespie. Carolyn enjoyed a lengthy career as a licensed practical nurse at Spartanburg Regional Health Systems, but her overwhelming devotion was to her family, both immediate and extended. She loved international travel with friends and family, sewing, crafts, gardening, and cooking. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia G. Eason (Bruce) of Greenville, SC; three sons, David Gillespie and Mark Gillespie (Lynne), of Spartanburg, SC and Keith Gillespie (Marilyn) of Carlisle, PA; nine grandchildren, John, Jenna, Michael, Stephen, and David Gillespie, Cassie Parker, Kirk Eason, Emily Longworth, and Sara Swanson; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Mason Brown McClure of Spartanburg, SC. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jones Brewer. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, 717 College Dr., Gaffney, SC 29340. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ben Avon United Methodist Church, 2360 Avondale Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home at 308 Springwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC.
