Carolyn Drake

Carolyn Sue Free Jones Drake, 93, of Charlotte, NC and formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Sharon Towers, Charlotte, NC. Born April 30, 1926, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Paul Jeter Free and Susie Ward Free. She was the widow of John William Drake, Jr. and Norman Fant Jones. She was a graduate of Converse College. Survivors include her sons, Norman Fant Jones (Becky), David Ward Jones (Margie Ann), Robert Belton Jones (Anne), and Andrew Wilkes Jones (Michele); grandchildren, Hanna Jones, Fant Jones, Hudson Jones, Coleman Jones, Sarah Gernon-Jones, Matthew Jones, and Michael Jones; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, Ward Free. A private graveside service will be conducted in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, by The Rev. Greg Palmer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 156 Milestone Way Suite A, Greenville, SC 29615.
