Carol Greene

Carol Greene, 87, of Chesnee, SC, wife of Walter Greene for 71 years, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born December 6, 1929, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late R. J. and Lillian Crossley Powell. Mrs. Greene was a member of First Baptist Church Spartanburg where she and her husband had a ministry of calling and singing Happy Birthday to The Young at Heart. She taught children in Sunday School and sang in the choir earlier in life. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Travis (Jenks) of Columbia, SC and Bart of Spartanburg, SC; one daughter, Dicksie Rhinehart (Carroll) of Pacolet, SC; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Randall Powell of Virginia and Jimmy Powell of Spartanburg, SC. She was predeceased by a daughter, Chris Threadgill; and two sisters, Shirley McCraw and Barbara Gossett. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Saturday, November 18, 2017, in the parlor of First Baptist Church Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, in Davis Chapel at First Baptist Church Spartanburg, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missions Building at First Baptist Church Spartanburg, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. The family is at the home of Walter Greene. Her favorite memory verse is Proverbs 3:6 "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
