Carmen Sherbert

Carmen Thomas Sherbert, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born November 4, 1926, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Marion Coan Thomas, Sr. and Lillie Eleanor Wofford Thomas, and widow of Robert Vernon "R. V." Sherbert. Mrs. Sherbert was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family and church. She was a very faithful, loyal, active, longtime member of Roebuck Baptist Church and a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She retired from the Roebuck Post Office after many years of service. Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Huckeba (Dante) of Roebuck, SC, and Laverne Jackson (Frank) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Ben Huckeba of Roebuck, Lindsay Baker, Christina Jackson, and Jeremiah Jackson, all of Spartanburg, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Anna Huckeba. Visitation will be 1:45-2:45 PM Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Roebuck Baptist Church. Funeral services will be follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tim Williams and the Rev. Ondra Black. Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, 830 Friendship Church Road, Pauline, SC 29374. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roebuck Baptist Church Building Fund, 1979 E. Blackstock Rd., Roebuck, SC 29376; or Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
