Carlos Shook, Sr.

July 14, 1921 — June 8, 2013

Carlos H. Shook, Sr., 91, of Spartanburg, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born July 14, 1921, in Banner Elk, NC, he was a son of the late Harvey E. and Lillian Presswood Shook, and husband of the late Christine Elizabeth Blackwood Shook. Mr. Shook was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the 84th Rail Splitters Infantry Division. For the past 60 years, he immensely enjoyed attending their annual reunions with his son and friends. He was a member of the VFW, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, a Mason and Shriner. He was a certified diesel mechanic and owner/operator of Diesel Truck Sales for 60-plus years. He continued to work and drive up until his death. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where he attended regularly. Survivors include a son, Chuck Shook of Spartanburg; a daughter, Lynn Shook of Greenville, SC; two grandchildren, Evan and Cameron Hambright; three brothers, Homer of Spartanburg, Hubert of Foscoe, NC and Dale of Spruce Pine, NC; one sister, Thelma Shook of Johnson City, TN; a number of nieces and nephews; "adopted" sons and daughters he loved immensely; grand-dogs, Carmen and Bullet; and grand-cat, Alley. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carmel M. and John Shook; and a sister, Wilma Shook. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Monday, June 10, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Brian Arant. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post 28 will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. The family is at the home.
