Carey Thompson

Carey Poole Thompson, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, widow of Clyde Frederick Thompson, died Monday, June 12, 2017, at White Oak North Grove-Spartanburg. Born January 8, 1924, in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Walter DeLafayette Poole and Ollie Coggins Poole and last surviving member of her immediate family. A lifelong adult member of Beaumont Baptist Church, Carey loved her Lord, church, and family. She had a strong work ethic and was employed with Beaumont Mills for over 30 years and also worked at Firestone and Krispy Kreme until she was 80 years old. She was also an avid bowler and reader. Surviving are her children, Faye Thompson Love (Ron) of Monroe, GA, James Frederick Thompson (Sally) of Hanahan, SC, Dennis Wayne Thompson (Jeanne) and Walter Dean Thompson, all of Spartanburg, SC; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 3 grandchildren; 4 brothers, and 6 sisters. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. John Cox and the Rev. Rupert Guest. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
