C. Sawyer, Jr.

C. P. "Pete" Sawyer Jr., 85, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Magnolia Manor-Spartanburg. Born September 19, 1927, in Greer, SC, he was the son of the late C. P. Sawyer Sr. and Daisy McElrath Sawyer. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Sawyer was also a retired police officer for the City of Spartanburg, with 33 years of service, retiring as Captain of Detectives. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class. Surviving are his wife Lucille Bradley Sawyer; son, Derek Sawyer and wife Donna of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughter, Heather Sawyer of Spartanburg, SC; step-son, Gene Cantrell of Augusta, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby Harvey Sawyer; and five sisters. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, September 21, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, by the Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary escort will be retired and active City of Spartanburg police officers. Pallbearers are members of the Spartanburg Public Safety Honor Guard.
