C. Dean Hayes, Sr.

Columbus Dean Hayes, Sr., 82, of Boiling Springs, SC claimed his eternal reward on Friday evening, June 7, 2024, at Upstate Carolina Hospice House in Landrum. Dean was born on February 9, 1942, in the Arcadia community of Spartanburg, a son of the late Ethel Hamby Hayes and Dean Mills Hayes. Dean was married to the late Dolores Ann Holcombe Hayes and later to the late Shelby Wright Fortner Hayes. 

Dean was a member of Inman First Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, a Prayer Warrior, and was very active with the youth. Dean served as the scoutmaster for the Boy Scout Troop 19 in Hilltop for 10 years. He was a graduate of Fairforest High School and was a proud veteran of the US Army. He was an electrician with Mayfair Mills for 44 years and later with the McCarthy-Teszler School for 15 years. Dean also volunteered with Mobile Meals. 

Surviving are his daughter, Leslie Ann Hayes Villanueva (Richard) of Inman; his son, Columbus Dean “Deanie” Hayes, Jr. (Lori) of Spartanburg; a step-son, the Rev. Sean Fortner (Dawn) of Inman; 6 grandchildren, Ethan Hayes, Lily Hayes, Erin Easler (Dylan), Erica Villanueva, Dylan Fortner and Kylie Fortner; two sisters, Mabel Padgett of Jackson, GA and Debra White of Roebuck; and three nieces. 

Then family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. 

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Inman First Free Will Baptist Church, 90 Blackstock Road, Inman, SC 29349, conducted by the Rev. Sean Fortner and the Rev. Monte Guffey. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. 

The family is at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Deanie and Lori Hayes.
