Bobby "Mitch" Byers

Bobby “Mitch” Mitchell Byers, 79, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, October 31, 2021 at his home. Born June 26, 1942 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Harrison and Sarah Mattie Owens Byers.

Mr. Byers was a Drum Major and a 1960 Spartanburg High School graduate. A veteran of the US Army. He earned his bachelor’s from Furman University in 1995 and was retired from Furman. Mitch pastored at LifeSpring Church and Park Hills Church of God, and bi-vocational Pastor at First Church of God – Whitmire. Mitch was very musically talented and loved to sing, especially in the Park Hills Quartet. He loved his family and church.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Miller Byers, his children, Susan Byers Smith (Jimmy) and Robert W. Byers (Cherrie), all of Spartanburg, SC, Lisa Byers Ross and Angela Byers Cleaver (Chuck) of Pennsylvania, his grandchildren, Glen Ross, Christopher Byers, David Addington Jr., Tommy Ross, Dani Belk, Josetta Byers, Michael Mitchell, and Wesley Byers, and great grandchildren, Maddie Grace, Katherine, Matthew, and William.

Visitation will be 1:00 – 1:45 PM Friday, November 5, 2021 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Funeral service will be 2:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Nate Didway. Entombment with Military Rites, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
