Bobby Mcintyre

January 17, 1939 — February 27, 2015

Bobby Watson McIntyre, 76, of Spartanburg, South Carolina passed away Friday, February 27, 2015. Born in Chester, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Barney Watson McIntyre and of the late Mary Burnett McIntyre Jenkins. While a student at Spartanburg High School, Bobby was a Four Sport Letterman and Student Body President. After graduating in 1957, he went on to receive an academic scholarship to Davidson where he wrestled under the Hall of Fame coach Charlie Parker. This sparked a passion for the sport that would last a lifetime. A natural problem solver and entrepreneur, Bobby went on to head many successful endeavors from hospitality/restaurants to the automotive industry, a trade he had learned from his father. However, it was the sport of wrestling that gave him the most joy, and where he spent his time involved in coaching and mentoring athletes for the better part of two decades. His quick humor and clever wit will be remembered by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Kaye McIntyre, a son Barney McIntyre of California; a son, Chuck Waldrep (Shannon) of Arizona; a daughter, Paige Birch (Joey) of Roebuck; two granddaughters, Amanda Waldrep and Daniele Breedlove (Brad); sister, Bennie Farmer of Tennessee; nieces Lynn Farmer and Leslie Senter and great nephew Andrew Senter. Visitation will be held at 2:00-2:45 PM on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Steve Wise. Memorials may be made to the Spartanburg High School Athletics "For Wrestling Team" 500 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307 or Spartanburg Regional Foundation Cardiac Pulmonary Rehabilitation, 101 East Wood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
