Bobby Joe "BJ" Alston, 82, of Spartanburg, SC died Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center-Mary Black Campus. Born March 24, 1939 in Birmingham, AL, he was the son of the late Solomon G. and Annette Guynes Alston. Bobby Joe was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. BJ received his Bachelor's degree from Ole Miss. He was a shipping supervisor at Performance Pipe. His loves were Ole Miss, Carolina Panthers, NASCAR, country music, the beach, and riding his boat on the lake. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth O. Alston, daughters, Amy Lawrence (Stephen) of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Duggins (Scott) of Inman, SC; grandsons, Justin Lawrence (Colleen), Matthew Lawrence, Ryan Lawrence, Noah Lawrence, Joshua Duggins, Cameron Duggins; great-granddaughter, Emma Lawrence, and niece, Ashleigh Alston. He was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Sidney Alston and his wife Gena, and nephew, Sidney Alston. Cryptside service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. John L. Warren, Jr. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1320 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
