Bobbie Oglesby

November 14, 1960 — November 3, 2010

Bobbie Dell Oglesby of Kissimmee, FL, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Born November 14, 1960 in Cowpens, SC, she was the daughter of Bobby Clary Oglesby of Cowpens and the late Carolyn Dell Threadgill Oglesby. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Bobbie lived a happy life of adventure and superlatives and was the smart girl who also was beautiful, popular, charming, and a natural leader. She was the cheerleader everyone liked and the valedictorian of the 1979 class of Broome High School. Her talents and her smarts sometimes made it seem her achievements came easy, but that is not true. Bobbie worked hard at everything she did. She started her professional life at the Wagon Wheel Fish Camp in Cowpens and ended it running her own marketing consulting company. In between, she worked as a marketing executive at three of America's most prestigious companies: Apple, Microsoft, and Disney. When Windows starts up on your computer, the sound you hear has Bobbie's fingerprints on it. Along with professional success, Bobbie enjoyed gardening and interior design. She led the landscape committee of her neighborhood and was a resource for friends and family on any plant question. Her home was a comfortable showplace that spoke to her good taste and keen eye for beauty. She also was a proud Gamecock and did her best to never miss a University of South Carolina game. She also liked to fish and once caught a 10-pound largemouth bass, following in the footsteps of her gifted angler father, Bob Oglesby. Bobbie was also lucky in love and spent the past 17 years with her soul mate, Will Sarmir, who steadfastly supported her during the final year of her life. While Bobbie's life was too short at only 49 years, she lived her years to the fullest. She had fun and she helped others. She nurtured her nephews and looked out for her friends and family, and she reached out to colleagues, especially other working women. Bobbie was a life long member of Salem United Methodist Church in Cowpens. In addition to her father and life partner, she is survived by a sister, Wendy Oglesby and brother-in-law David Higbe of Charlotte, NC; sisters Clary Oglesby and Kay Oglesby of Cowpens; nephews, Ian Oglesby Wilde, Parker Oglesby Wilde and Cameron Oglesby White, all of Cowpens; and her dear best friend, Linda Nicholls of Boiling Springs. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Salem United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Roye Lynn Kulik. Burial will be in Waters Cemetery in Cowpens, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Salem United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 160, Cowpens, SC; or to the USC College of Business at University Foundations, 915 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29208. The family is at the home of her father, Bob Oglesby, 193 Oglesby Lane, Cowpens, SC 29330.
