Bobbie Leonard Mathis, known affectionately as “GrandBobbie” or “BobBob” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 89, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2022, in Atlanta, GA, with family by her side. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Billy “Perk” Mathis.
Born April 1, 1933, she was one of seven children of Joseph and Lois Leonard of Greer, SC. She attended Spartanburg Junior College (now Spartanburg Methodist College) and worked for many years in secretarial and administrative positions.
Bobbie was a talented seamstress and over the years gifted family and friends with beautiful handmade quilts, custom home décor, intricately smocked baby dresses and other lovingly handcrafted items. These gifts will be cherished and passed on to future generations. She also enjoyed creating a beautiful home, collecting antiques, gardening, oil painting, reading and baking her special Santa cookies. Family was important to her and she delighted in the milestones and achievements of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish and preserve her memory are her two daughters and their husbands, Kay and David Anderson of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sandra and David Coxon of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Mathis Coxon, Katherine Anders and her husband Samuel, Joshua Anderson and his wife Christi, and Zachary Anderson; great-grandchildren, Lillyan, Hollis and Madalyn Anders, and Owen and Cora Anderson. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Keels and husband Bill of Greenville, SC, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
The family welcomes contributions in Bobbie’s memory to a charity of your choice or your place of worship.
