Bob Richardson

Born in Reidsville, NC on February 15, 1927, Robert Payne Richardson, IV, 83, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2010. He graduated from Woodberry Forest School, Virginia, and joined the Navy to serve in the Pacific Theatre toward the end of WWII. After returning, Bob attended Davidson College, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. In 1950, he married Libba McGee of Spartanburg, who predeceased him in 2002. They moved to Spartanburg in 1952, where he co-founded Hayes and Richardson Textiles. In 1958 Bob joined the Aug. W. Smith Co., later becoming president. Bob began a second career in 1981, joining the commercial real estate division of Coldwell Banker Caine. Bob served many years on the Board of Governors at the Piedmont Club. Throughout his years in Spartanburg, he served on numerous charities and boards, giving many volunteer hours for the betterment of the community. He was a deacon and active member of the First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his four children, Ricky and Betsy Richardson of Spartanburg; Tom and Beth Richardson of Newport News, VA; Scott and Carolyn Richardson of Simpsonville, SC; and Bibba and Hal McKemy of Wyomissing, PA, and his six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jane Vieth of Bethesda, MD and his brother, Irvin Richardson of Reidsville, NC. The family will receive friends at the home of Ricky Richardson, 643 Crystal Drive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, conducted by the Rev. Susan E. Moorefield, with visitation to follow in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P.O.
