Bob Martin

Robert Ray "Bob" Martin, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born July 21, 1928, in Pacolet, SC, he was the son of the late Roy and Minerva Greene Martin and husband of the late Edna Ruth Coleman Martin. A U. S. Navy veteran, Mr. Martin was owner of Martin's Barber Shop on Pine Street and cut hair for 67 years. He served on the South Carolina Barber Board for 18 years, and was a member of Ben Avon Baptist Church and Glendale Masonic Lodge No. 271 AFM. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by an infant son, Kenneth Ray Martin; three sisters, Minnie Lawter, Arsie Thornton, and Carrie Osment; five brothers, Wallace, Edward, Cletus, James, and Henry Martin; and special friend, Zelma Pettit. Visitation will be 11:30 AM-12:30 PM Friday, December 23, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with Masonic rites at 12:45 PM. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard King and the Rev. David Mason. Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens, 141 Memorial Dr., Pacolet, SC 29372. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ben Avon Baptist Church, 2437 Wallace Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
