Bob Flintom

February 10, 1949 — July 4, 2010

Charles Robert "Bob" Flintom, 61, of 150 Riveroak Lane, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born February 10, 1949 in Winston-Salem, NC, he was the son of the late George William and Francis McSwain Flintom. He was a 1967 graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC and a 1971 graduate of Elon University in Elon, NC with a BA degree in Biology. He excelled in and loved football and played Pop-Warner Little League as a child and continued playing during junior high, and high school, as well as college. He coached Pop-Warner Little League football in Winston-Salem where he led his team to win the 1972 World Championship. Mr. Flintom was an avid outdoorsman and had a special love for fishing and hunting which he developed from an early age. He loved his family, his Lord, and his country. He devoted over 30 years of his life serving the community as a firefighter and was currently a full time career firefighter with Pelham-Batesville Fire Department where he held the position of Engineer and former Shift Captain. He was also a current sales representative for Leslie Fire Equipment Company, and Unique Fire Apparatus Company, and formerly worked for Burgess Fire Equipment Co. Before entering public service he was a Pharmaceutical Representative for E. R. Squibb/Bristol-Myers Company. He was a past member of the Boiling Springs Fire Department during which time he served as a volunteer firefighter. He was also a past member of the North Spartanburg Fire Department where he served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT and Assistant Chief. He was voted Firefighter of the Year in 1983 by North Spartanburg Fire Department and was awarded an Outstanding Service Award by Pelham- Batesville Fire Department in 1992 for employing CPR Lifesaving measures. Mr. Flintom was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church of Boiling Springs and formerly attended Covenant United Methodist Church where he was chairperson of the Outreach Committee and served on numerous other committees. Survivors include his wife Brenda Gail Forbis Flintom; a son, Charles Richard "Chip" Flintom of Inman; a sister, Betty Flintom Butler and husband Sonny of Thomasville, NC; two brothers, Bill Flintom and wife Mary of Fredericksburg, TX and Blair Flintom of Bethlehem, PA; an aunt, Betty McSwain of Winston-Salem, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by Chaplain Jerry D. Clevenger and Chaplain Gary E. Rogers. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, July 9, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
