Blanche Gordon

Blanche "Bonnie" Yvonne Bellamy Gordon, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born February 13, 1930, in Marion, SC, and reared in Mullins, SC, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Claude and Minnie Kathelene Black Bellamy. A 1952 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Bonnie was the 1951 Wofford Homecoming Queen. She spent her summers in Sweden Valley, PA with her maternal grandparents, the late Walter Henry and Luella Black. Mrs. Gordon was a former teacher at Evans Junior High School and organized the Kindergarten at Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught the Sixth Grade Sunday School Class and was the Circle 1 Bible Leader for over 30 years. Her favorite scripture was Romans 12. Bonnie was a volunteer with Hannah Cohn Ministries which became the first latchkey program in South Carolina. She also enjoyed her Bridge Club, Book Club, and Garden Club, serving as a volunteer with Mobile Meals, and the "Grademother" for 20 years during her daughter's school years. Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, James "Jimmy" "Stick" Rufus Gordon; daughters, Claircy Kate Purinton (Doug) of Spartanburg, SC and Susannah G. White (John) of Jackson, TN; grandchildren, Gordon White (Kristen), Andrew White, Bellamy Purinton, Wilson Purinton, Forrest White, and Kathelene White; one great-grandchild, Caroline Anne White; and cousin, Sue Black Decker (Charles) of Wellsville, NY. In addition to her parents and maternal grandparents, she was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Eva Mae and John Sydney Bellamy of Loris, SC. A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 PM Friday, March 27, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by the Rev. Dr. Tom Evans. A reception will follow the service in the church Parlor. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
