Billy F. “Bill” Hunsinger, 79, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, December 9, 2022 at Summit Hills. Born June 12, 1943 in Campobello, SC, he was the son of the late Frank Otis and Olsie Burrell Hunsinger.
Billy graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1961 and Newberry college in 1965, where he earned a BA in Finance. Billy was retired as CFO of New Cherokee Corp. in Spindale, NC, after serving 30 years in textiles. He became a Financial Advisor for Wells Fargo, where he worked for nine years before he retired, again.
A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for the last 30 years, Bill was active as a church council member, usher, and a member of the South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission. He was also a proud member of the Sunrise Civitan Club in Spartanburg for seven years.
Bill and Robin raised their children in Rutherfordton, NC, then they returned to Spartanburg in 1992 and lived at Lake Bowen. He was an avid bike rider and could often be seen riding around town up until the time of his illness. Bill was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Robin Riser Hunsinger; daughter, Dana H. Homan (Mark) of Duncan, SC; son, Joshua D. Hunsinger of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, Harrison Homan and Carson Homan. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Frances “Pat” Taylor Royle.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 415 S. Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by The Rev. Heather Apel. Reception following the service in the original Fellowship Hall. Interment will be held at a later date in St. John’s Lutheran Church Columbarium and Garden.

The family would like to thank the staff on Pavilion 6 at Spartanburg Medical Center, the staff of Summit Hills and their Skilled Nursing facility, Spartanburg Regional Hospice, and Comfort Keepers of Spartanburg. We also wish to thank special caregiver, Amy Hayden for her kind and generous heart.
