Billy “Bill” Hugh Casey, 77, of Spartanburg, passed away on Thursday morning, November 14, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Bill was born on November 21, 1946, in Spartanburg, a son of the late Agnes Martin Casey and John Hugh Casey. He was married to Ana Vera Casey, who he adored.
Bill was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, Spartanburg Junior College, and Western Carolina University. He was a proud veteran of the US Coast Guard and served as a former Commander and Chaplain of American Legion Post 33 in Woodruff. Bill was a member of Abner Baptist Church and was a Mason in Clermont, FL. Locally, Bill was a sales manager with Arrow Automotive for many years.
Bill was a true sportsman; he played baseball and ran track as a boy, he played softball on multiple church teams over the years, he water-skied, and mercilessly beat neighborhood teenagers at basketball well into his late 30’s. He became an avid golfer in the 80’s and most recently enjoyed playing a round with his Humpday Hackers group at Village Greens Golf Club in Inman.
Bill was an accomplished traveler. He visited the British Isles multiple times with his sister and daughter, visited the Caribbean with his brother, and later traveled with his wife Ana to Spain and Italy.
Bill might be best known for his exceptional sense of humor. His family members can quote stories from his youth about his roguish escapades and infamous prank-playing that have become family lore. He was usually able to charm his way out of any dire consequences. It is this charm, combined with a dryly delivered wisdom and mischievous laugh that his family will miss most.
Along with his wife, Bill is survived by his children, Christopher Hugh Casey of Apopka, FL and Katie Casey (Frank Galifianakis) of Atlanta, Ga; two grandchildren, Sean Casey and Fallon Casey; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Wren; a sister, Angela Casey Blain of Mount Pleasant, SC; and a brother, Robin Casey (Libby) of Roebuck, SC.
The family will receive friends from 2-2:45 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel, 235 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jim Thomas. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 200 Honors Team.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abner Baptist Church, PO Box 170157, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
