Billy Cannon

Billy Pat Cannon, 71, died Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born February 2, 1939, in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Elmer and Lena Berry Cannon. He was a retired corrugated box designer and salesman, spending the majority of his career with Union Camp Corporation and Inland Container Corporation. He also worked as job placement recruiter for several years with companies in Shelby, NC and Spartanburg. After retirement, Pat became a dedicated and enthusiastic member of Lion's Club International, immediately becoming active not only in the local Boiling Springs club, but achieving positions of leadership both county- and state-wide, including Club President, Zone Chairman, and Zone Extension Chairman. He was responsible for establishing Lions Clubs in Chesnee and Gaffney, SC. He received numerous awards and recognition from the Lions, which include the highest Club award, The Melvin Jones Fellow, and The Dr. Franklin G. Mason Fellow award from the South Carolina Lions. His passions lay in the Storm Eye Institute. Pat believed and lived his life by the motto: "We serve: and I am servant to all." In addition to his wife, Carol Sue Ellenberg Cannon, survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Berry and husband Ken of Inman, SC, and Carol Drummond and husband Eric of Beaufort, SC; one son, Rev. Ronald Cannon and wife Myrna of Brown Summit, NC; five grandchildren, Erica Coates, Emily Berry, Casey Berry, Abby Cannon, and Zach Cannon; one great-grandson, Sam; two brothers, Michael and Bobby Cannon of Boiling Springs. He had a large, loving, extended family and was loved by all who knew him. Visitation will be 2:00-3:15 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James W. Crocker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boiling Springs Lion's Club, 241 Peachtree Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
