Billy James Burgess, 51, of Spartanburg SC passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2020. "The man. The myth. The legend." Billy will always be remembered for his love for family, friends, and fast cars. He lived an audacious life full of adventure. He loved to snowboard, scuba dive, dredge, drag race, and so much more. But there was nothing he loved more than his sons. Billy would say, "They are the best thing I've ever done in my life." With unwavering determination and stubborn grit, Billy built a life for himself that far surpassed his humble beginnings. To say he was a hard worker is an understatement, he had a drive, determination, and strength that people admired, also, a resourcefulness to learn trades and skills that lead him to work around the world. No matter where life took him, his home was always in South Carolina, where his boys reside. He treasured the time spent with his sons sharing his passion for fixing and trading cars. It was in those moments he imparted his wisdom not only for fixing and trading but the importance of hard work. If you were fortunate to know and love Billy, you would have known a man of extraordinary quick wit that could turn any conversation into laughter. He lived life by his rules, was a loyal friend, amazing sibling, a cool uncle, a wonderful father, and a strong son. Survivors are his two children, Billy Burgess (K'Leigh), and Jesse Burgess of Spartanburg SC; two grandsons, Asher (6), Atlas (3), and twin granddaughters, Hartleigh and Hadlyn (1); mother Oleva "Kathy" Kinder and brother, Johnny Kinder of Spartanburg, SC; two sisters, Lisa Lancaster (Curtis) of Spartanburg SC, and Michelle Harris (Ron) of Brunswick, GA. He was predeceased by his father, Captain Harry Burgess of Brunswick GA, grandparents, Bill and Oleva Smith of Spartanburg SC, and Frank and Florence Burgess Hortense, GA.
