Bill Blanton

Bill L. Blanton, 83, of Spartanburg, died on Friday, January 18, 2013, at his home. Born February 27, 1929, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Broadus Langdon and Ida Henson Blanton. Mr. Blanton retired from Startex Finishing after 40 years of service. He was a former member of Green Street Baptist Church, an avid golfer, former Little League Baseball Coach, played fast-pitch softball, as well as, playing minor league baseball with the Cincinnati organization in the 1950's. Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothy Irene Allison Blanton; daughter, Debora Cantrell (Brett) of Jacksonville, FL; son, David L. Blanton (Kim) of Inman, SC; sister, Sue Lampley of Reading, PA. He was also a very special "PaPa" to grandchildren, Hope, Laura, Brad, Haley, Taylor, and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 20, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, by the Rev. Andy Case. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
