Betty Wood

Betty McMillin Wood, 88, loving wife of 60 years to the late Tyrus "Ty" Raymond Wood, died Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born January 23, 1930 in Boiling Springs, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Percy and Ella Nora Turner McMillin. She graduated from Boiling Springs High School and attended Winthrop College as an English major. Betty was a longtime member of Morningside Baptist Church, where she was a toddler's nursery teacher for 28 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and daughter. She always put her family's needs above her own, even during the decline of her health. She was loving, unselfish, humble, and kind. She took joy in being "Nannie" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters, Lindy Sanders (Henry) and Susan Pope (Tim), both of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Hank Sanders (Amanda) and Millie Thomasson (Brent) of Greenville, SC; Dottie Tyson (Will) of Woodstock, GA, Mary Caroline Findley (Cody) of Kathleen, GA; Adam Pope (Sarah) of Kansas City, MO; and Will Pope (Sarah) of Clemson, SC; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Bagwell of Boiling Springs, SC. Betty was the youngest of seven children. She was predeceased by her brothers, Dupre, Raymond, Bud, and Milton McMillin, and by a sister, Dorothy Thompson. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Dr. Steven R. Owensby and The Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Visitation will follow at the graveside. Memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 897 S.
