Betty (Elizabeth) Hamiter Taylor, daughter of the late William Talmage and Lou Ella Westbury Hamiter and wife of the late Samuel Everett Taylor passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, attended Winthrop College, and Converse College, class of 1945. She retired from Philips Fiber Corporation as a laboratory supervisor. She was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent and the Episcopal Church Women (ECW). She was also a former member of the Forrest Hills Garden Club, Twin Lakes Women's Club, the Up Country Chapter of Questers, and The Piedmont Club of Spartanburg. She is survived by her daughter, Jan (Janet) Sumerel and husband Tom of Spartanburg, SC, two grandchildren, William Thomas Sumerel and wife Jennifer Ellis Sumerel of Moore, SC, Stacia (Stacy) Sumerel Nuessle, and her husband Patterson Ryan Nuessle of Aiken, SC. Three great grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynn Sumerel and Donald Thomas Sumerel, both of Moore, SC, and Paeth Ryanne Nuessle of Aiken, SC. She is predeceased by her sister, Helen Hamiter Bright of Spartanburg, and a great grandchild, McCrae Spann Nuessle of Aiken, SC. Funeral services will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC at 2:30 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2015, officiated by The Reverend J. Edward Morris, The Reverend Stephen McGehee, and The Reverend Deborah H. Apoldo. Pallbearers will be son-in-law, Tom Sumerel, grandson William Sumerel, Patt Nuessle, grandson in law, great grandson, Donald Sumerel, and Lou Guzzo. A private committal service will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the home of her daughter, Jan Sumerel, 804 Glendalyn Ave, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29302 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, January 19, 2015. A reception will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Advent following the service at The Parish and Community Life Center. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Summit Hills Retirement Center for all of their love and care during the time of her residence. It was a wonderful experience for our family. The family requests that flowers be omitted, and Memorials may be made to the Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29303 or to The Episcopal Church of the Advent Foundation, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
