Betty Swanson

Betty Jane Vogel Swanson, 82, of Spartanburg, died Friday, January 8, 2021, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born April 17, 1938 in Cincinnati, OH, she was a daughter of the late George and Gertrude Hopkins Vogel. She was married to the late Kermit Athol Swanson. Betty retired from Michelin Tire after 15 years of service and was also a retired cosmetologist of 60 years. She also served as a caregiver. She was a member of Converse Baptist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Guyandotte Chapter in Huntington, WV. She loved her Lord, her family, and her four legged children, Charlie and Andy. Betty is survived by daughters, Brenda Tanner (Earl) of Converse, SC and Kelli Gaw (James) of Inman, SC; a lifelong friend, Anne Cooper of Spartanburg; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Rosanne White; and a brother, Norman Vogel. Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2021, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Willis. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. The family requests that guests wear masks and observe social distancing.
