Betty Lou Helriggle Smith, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, April 3, 2015, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born May 8, 1929, in Roseville, OH, she was the daughter of the late William David and Josephine Price Helriggle. She was married for 55 years to the late John Lindsey "Jack" Smith. Mrs. Smith retired from Jefferson-Pilot Insurance Company after 21 years of service. She attended Bliss Business College and was employed with Jeffrey Manufacturing Company in Columbus, OH before moving to Spartanburg. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was an active member. An avid gardener who loved her flowers, she enjoyed traveling and was also a great cook. Survivors include her son, David Lindsey Smith and his wife Joanna of Brandenton, FL; daughter, Kimberly Ann Jolley and her husband Richard of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughters, Lenza Michelle Jolley of Columbia, SC, Shannon Leigh Smith and Katie Ann Smith, both of Bradenton, FL; and sister, Virginia Auther of Springfield, VA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Bert Price. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Thursday, April 9, 2015, in the Parlor at Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM at the church. Honorary escort will be members of the H. F. Chreitzburg Sunday School Class.
