Betty Gossett Hughes

Betty Gossett Hughes, 96, of Spartanburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at White Oak at North Grove. Betty was born on March 31, 1928, in Whitmire, SC, a daughter of the late Lula Hooper Heatherly and Asa Gossett. She was the loving wife of the late Thomas Erskine Hughes for 75 years. 

Betty was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church and she attended Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing. 

Survivors include her children, R. Douglas Hughes (Nancy), Karen Hughes Brown (Eric), and Keith Duncan Hughes (Sherry), all of Spartanburg, SC; her five grandchildren, Reggie Hughes, Lee Ann Hughes Hegg (C.J.), Katie Hughes Brune (Chris), Alex Hughes Smith (Jeremy) and Jaymie Hughes; and five great-grandchildren, Kimbrell, Ellie, Duncan, J.D., and Emerson. Along with her husband and her parents, Betty was predeceased by her siblings, Clara Papas, Mary Addington, Sara Woolen, Pat Fricks, and Asa Gossett, Jr. 

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Andrew Wolfe.
