It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Betty Hammond, of Spartanburg, SC, born in Forsyth County, NC, who passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021, at the age of 88 in her home with her husband L.P. Hammond/Buddy to whom she was married to for 67 years. Betty started dating Buddy in the 7th grade. She loved to shag and had Buddy shagging with her up to a month prior to her passing.
Betty was loved and cherished by many people. She was predeceased by her parents, L. Milton Hauser and Reba Bagwell Hauser; her siblings, Ann McKinney, John Hauser and her son, Perry Hammond. She is survived by her husband, Buddy; daughters, Debby Allen (John), Betty Ann Ridley (Keith), and Missey Hammond (Perry) and her sister, Sibyl Cooper (Ransom). She has 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and another one on the way at the end of July.
Betty graduated from Winthrop College with a two-year Business degree. She worked in the family business, Hammond-Brown-Jennings Furniture Company, doing bookkeeping and account management until her retirement in 2000. She and Buddy were long-time members of Trinity Methodist Church where they both helped with Sunday Youth programs, Sunday School, and Scouting.
Visitation will be held 11:00 AM-12:00 PM Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC with services following at 12:30 PM in the Chapel conducted by The Rev. A. Mickey Fisher and The Rev. Jim Harrison. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Youth Program, 626 Norwood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
