Betty Sue McLemore Dupree, 85, of Spartanburg, SC and formerly of West Bloomfield, MI, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017, at Eden Terrace-Spartanburg. Born November 5, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John Bundy McLemore and Ina Waters McLemore and widow of Robert Bertram Dupree. A native of Duncan, SC, she and Robert lived in Michigan for 34 years and retired to Spartanburg in 1988. While in Michigan, Sue attended classes at Oakland University, Farmington Hills, MI, and Michigan State University. Sue was elected and served as West Bloomfield Township Clerk from 1968-1988 and was a member of the Board of Directors of Henry Ford Hospital-West Bloomfield. She was the honored recipient of the Michigan Minute Man Award from Governor William Milliken for the Survival Guide she wrote which was subsequently distributed by the local newspaper to every household after a tornado struck her community. She also helped organize and was president of the West Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra. While in Spartanburg she was appointed to the Mary Black Foundation Board of Directors and the Museum of Arts Board of Directors and was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Survivors include her grandson, Alex Robert Dupree of Royal Oak, MI; and sister, Josephine Ramsey of Lexington, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Michael Robert Dupree; and sisters, Clara Hernandez, Jennifer Trotta and Bernice Bennett. A memorial service will be conducted at 4:30 PM Friday, July 7, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by Associate Minister, Tod Alexander. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
