Betty B. Doyle, 90, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, August 11,2024. Betty was born in 1934 to B.O. and Mary Lee Bradford in Ripley, Mississippi. As a young girl, her family moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she completed her schooling and attended what was then Memphis State College. She married Thomas McNeal (Neal) Doyle, Jr. in 1954. Together they had three daughters and one son and lived across the Southeast.
When the children were little, Betty was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress; she loved to sew dresses for her daughters. She also enjoyed being a part-time runway model for Rich’s Department Store in downtown Atlanta, modeling all the latest fashions while ladies lunched in the Magnolia Tea Room.
As the children grew older, Betty got a job as a secretary at Mountain View Nursing Home from where she retired but continued to serve in several capacities for a total of over 50 years. She also took up golf and played at hundreds of golf courses across the United States while traveling with her husband, Neal. She continued to play golf several times a week until her late eighties.
Betty was a life-long learner and was very well-read. As an empty-nester and retiree, Betty loved to travel and liked to boast that she had been to all seven continents, visiting many interesting and beautiful places around the world. She also enjoyed knitting lap blankets and answering the phones for her church and attending exercise classes with her many friends.
Betty is survived by her three daughters; Cindy Jondahl (Joe) of Norman, OK, Lorna Carter (Randy) of King, NC, Merry Nichols (Frank) of West Columbia, SC; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sisters; Glenda Bowen of Cordova, TN, and Reba Miller of Murfreesboro, TN. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Neal; her son Thomas McNeal (Macky) Doyle III, and her parents.
