Betty Blanton

Betty Jean Brotherton Blanton, 86, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Restorative Care. Born October 5, 1924 in Joplin, MO, she was the daughter of the late Loran and Genevieve Gibbs Brotherton. She was a devoted wife and mother and served as Chief Financial Officer of Blanton Insurers. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, Parris Bridge Road, and a member of the Welcome Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband Joseph H. "Joe" Blanton; four children, Joseph H. Blanton, II, Michael L (Deborah) Blanton all of Spartanburg, Dr. Gregg (Ana) Blanton, and Marilyn (Jeff) Lane all of Asheville, NC; eight grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Blanton, Ryan (Melanie) Blanton, Jarad Blanton, Justin (Amy) Blanton, Jody (Jordan) Blanton, Elise Blanton, Juliana Blanton, and Jennifer Lane; and three great-grandchildren, Mountain Rose, Kaia Sol and Cadence Grace Blanton. She was predeceased by two sisters, Janis Ryan and Jo Ann Brotherton. Visitation will be 2:00-3:15 PM Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Mountain View Baptist Church, Parris Bridge Road. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 PM in the church, conducted by the Rev Tyler Kirby and Justin Blanton, and additional comments by other grandchildren. Members of the Welcome Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Escort. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, World Mission Fund 5555 Parris Bridge Road, Spartanburg, SC 29316 or to Shepherd's Door Ministeries, PO Box 823, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
