Bette Gosnell Bridges, 92, of Spartanburg, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, November 12, 2024, at White Oak Estates. Bette was born on April 12, 1932, in the Drayton community of Spartanburg, SC, daughter of the late Beatrice Hines Moss and Charles Sim Moss. She was married to Oscar Wilson Bridges. She was preceded in death by her first husband Horace Miller Gosnell, Jr.
Bette was a 1950 graduate of Spartanburg High School and retired in 1994 from Roebuck Buildings after more than 20 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed her membership with the Women of Construction, and her servant heart shown brightly by volunteering with the Carolina Pregnancy Center, Mobile Meals, and several other worthy endeavors.
Bette deeply loved her Lord and her family. She was an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years and currently is a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Along with her husband, Bette is survived by her children, Sherry Johnson (Roger), Tammy Bishop (Derrell Stone) and Gary Gosnell (Amy McGuire); her grandchildren, Nic Johnson (Shannon), Adam Johnson (Paula), Shannon Rodgers (Matt), Hannah Westby (Briggs) and Haley Grice (Ben); her great-grandchildren, Silas and Hunter Rodgers; and her bonus daughter, Darlene Lancaster. Along with her parents and first husband, Bette was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Painter.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2024, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
Bette’s family wishes to express their deep appreciation and thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Jackie and Tweet, for the gentle and loving care shown to Bette.
A celebration service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 842 Mount Zion Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303, conducted by the Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 842 Mount Zion Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
